Open a CDS account through mobile in Srilanka
You have to open a Central Depository Systems (CDS) account before investing or trading in Srilankan stocks. Its very easy to open a CDS account in Srilanka. CDS account is like bank account we open for our stock deposits. But the procedure is little bit different. You can open CDS account with two ways :
- Open it by filling the forms manually and submitting it to the relevant portal
- Register a CDS account in online through mobile application.
This is a step of step guide for how to setup an CDS account. Follow the instruction clearly. If you don’t know how to download the mobile app the links and instructions to download is given at the bottom of this article.

The home page of the CSE mobile app will look like this. Here you have to press our service icon (CSE logo).

The new window will appear like this. Then you have to press open a CDS account button.

Now you can see a welcome page like this. All you have to do is press create a login

Then you will redirect to a login page like this. This requires some fields like your email address, password, authentication and some more security setups. But those are very user friends and easy to complete.

Once you have completed the process you will get a success page saying your digital login process is successful. Once you reach this point you can apply for CDS registration now or later by those two buttons in the bottom. So if you want to do now you have to press fill CDS account opening form button.
1. Now you will see an account opening window like this. You have to go through seven steps to complete the account creation. In the first step you have to feed your personal details like Name, gender, DOB, NIC etc.
And the most important thing you have to select is your stock broker. To register yourself in Colombo stock exchange you have to select a stockbroker to get your CDS account done. So research about the stockbrokers in Srilanka and choose the preferred one you like [CLICK HERE TO SEE WHO IS THE BEST STOCKBROKER IN SRILANKA] and if you have Tax Identification Number (TIN) you can give it. Otherwise it’s optional you leave it as blank. Once you done with this all you can press next.
2. Now you are in second step, here you have to fill up your Residential information. Some annual reports or important confidential forms will be sent to this address. Once you complete this click next
3. Now you are in third step, here you have to fill up your Bank details. Dividends will be credited to this bank account. Once you complete this click next
4. Now you are in fourth step, here you have to fill up your Employment details. Here you have to include your investable amount source of income and that kind of things. Read the lines and answer the blanks. Once you complete this click next
5. Now you are in fifth step, this is for politically exposed person. If you are politically exposed person then click yes, otherwise select no. Mostly as normal cases it will be a no. Once you complete this click next
6. Now you are in sixth step, here you have upload your Documents. Read the lines and upload the necessary documents. Once you uploaded the documents click next.
7. Now you are in seventh step, this is for last step of registration progress. Here you will give the terms and condition. Read the guidelines and tick in the box as a sign of agreement (in order to create a CDS account you have to tick all boxes).Once you understand the terms and conditions and agree with them by ticking all boxes click submit.
That’s all. You have successfully registered for a CDS account. But sad part is still you not created an account, you just registered for the application form. And to get account creation it has to be verified by CSE and Stock broker. Verification process requires some time. Once the process completes you will get a mail from your stockbroker as rejected/ returned/completed the account.
- Rejected – Your account registration is terminated and you are not eligible to create CDS account.
- Returned – You have some minor changes to do with your application form. Once you correct those you can reapply again
- Completed – You have successfully created your CDS account. Now you can invest your money and start Investing or Trading
They will give the guidelines regarding fees, investing amount, trading platform etc. Once you done those things, your CDS account will be created and you can access.
